December has an energy unlike any other month. There are parties to attend, family dinners to host, photos to take, and memories to make. After a year of ponytails and practical styles, this is your moment to sit in the chair and say: let's do something special.
At The Edge Hair Studio, December is one of our favourite months — not just because of the festive atmosphere, but because it gives us the chance to help our clients feel genuinely incredible. Here's a look at the styles we're recommending this holiday season, and how to make them work for you.
The Polished Blowout
Sometimes the most elegant thing you can do is let your hair be its best, most natural self — but better. A professional blowout adds volume, shine, and movement that's nearly impossible to replicate at home. It holds through a long dinner, survives a coat check, and photographs beautifully.
Best for: Straight to wavy hair types. Works equally well on shorter bobs as it does on longer lengths. If you have fine hair, ask us about a volumizing treatment alongside your blowout — it makes a noticeable difference.
Style tip: Keep accessories minimal. A blowout at its best doesn't need competition.
Glossy Waves — The Steampod Finish
Our most requested finish this time of year. The L'Oréal Steampod creates waves and smooth styles using steam rather than direct dry heat, which means less damage and a finish that genuinely lasts. The result is that effortless, high-shine wave you've seen on every red carpet — the kind that looks expensive because the hair itself looks healthy.
Best for: Medium to long hair. Works beautifully on colour-treated hair, and is especially effective if your hair tends to frizz in colder, dryer weather.

The Textured Up-Do
Not every up-do has to be stiff and formal. This season we're loving relaxed, textured up-styles that feel intentionally undone — a loose chignon, a twisted knot with a few pieces pulled out, or a low bun with some volume at the crown. A Note on Timing
December books up faster than any other month — and for good reason. If you're hoping to get in before a specific event, we recommend reaching out at least 2–3 weeks in advance. We do our best to accommodate everyone, but our most popular appointment slots (Thursday and Friday evenings, Saturday mornings) go quickly.
If you have a specific date in mind — a holiday party, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve — let us know when you book and we'll work backward to make sure your hair is at its very best for that moment.
At-Home Tips to Keep Your Style Going
A great salon appointment is only half the battle — here's how to extend your results at home through the busy holiday season:
Sleep on a silk pillowcase. It genuinely reduces frizz and breakage overnight, and keeps blowouts fresher for longer.
Use dry shampoo strategically. Apply it before bed rather than the morning after — it has time to absorb and you'll wake up with more volume.
Avoid over-touching. The more you run your hands through your hair, the faster it falls flat. Style it once, set it, and leave it.
Protect before you heat. If you're refreshing your style at home with a curling iron or straightener, always use a heat protectant. The winter air is already drying — don't add to it.
